///GONE TILL///

A fascination with the skies seems to have been unfleetingly present in my life. Such an obsession shouldn't come as much surprise really, it is quite proven there's an innate attraction to things akin to oneself. The skies are unpredictably moody; at different times menacing & bright, depressing & cheerful, nightmarish & breathtaking, threatening & fragile. We woke early one day to a gloomy cloud-filled slightly rainy sky & decided this was the perfect weather to drive up to Malibu for a jog along the deserted beach. Despite the numbing of bare feet & unusual rash developments, the crisp air refreshed our senses. The fact is we probably only jogged a mere ten minutes as that was all our unfit bodies would allow us. Driving up there I was reminded that I still have yet to visit the Getty Villa & that along with a fascination with the skies, I've also one for the sea. Not particularly swimming in it but just being adjacent to it, listening & admiring.

Another day was spent weaving through the posher areas of Los Angeles, where lush greenery is abundant & expansive mansions are commonplace. Night fell & I found myself fearing my own demise thinking about how speeding through the sharp winding roads of Hollywood Hills at night with broken headlights is definitely not my favorite pastime now that I'm sober. If I still had my self-destructive druggie/drunkie demeanor wherein nothing really mattered, I honestly wouldn't mind being a fatal victim of Mulholland Drive. When my attention wasn't directed at the pitch dark road ahead, the view of the city lights sprouting & wriggling out of the midnight abyss below somewhat calmed me.

On Monday I made it to the dentist after over a year of avoidance, sooo pleased to hear I've three root canals to be done. Let's just think of that as a bunch of prescribed pain killers to be ingested. The homie works at the dentist office so it's not as terrible an ordeal as it usually is, I actually get to laugh rather than cringe with unsightly dry mouth & limp tongue.

Wednesday was LA Auto Show day, we went to perform an up-close inspection of the non-super-luxury cars because my license suspension is finally up & I can drive again! These are still quite far-fetched desires but I am coveting the new BMW X3 & the Infiniti EX35; mini SUVs for mini me.

Homeboy Industries was next on the to do list, the boy had his first free tattoo removal session [for career's sake]. While we were awaiting his turn for radiation-exposure, I was actually considering getting some of mine removed as well. After sitting with him through the process I swiftly changed my mind. That shit looked way too painful for me. & the man informed us that it takes anywhere between eight to thirty sessions to fully remove the tattoos depending on what kind of ink was used, how long you've had the tattoos, & how well you protect them from the sun. Jesus.

///OBSERVA///

A black1974 Ford Ranger has housed my days the past couple of weeks - riding many a traffic'd freeway, exploring parts of LA I never knew existed despite having lived here four years. The sky an infinite muse, a tourist in my very own city. Last Monday a curious sky-sighting occurred, still unexplained by myself & the media alike. A rainbow at the tail-end of a wispy wing-shaped cloud that escaped in a matter of minutes left me wondering if what I'd seen was mere fiction. My delapidated camera captured it so it must've been true. The second Thursday of November brought DTLA artwalk to my loft's vicinity once again & I can't help but be less & less enthusiastic about it as the months roll on. This is probably due to me being completely sober nowadays in conjunction with the fact that more & more of the artwalk crowd is being made up of inebriated hooligans not the least bit interested in the art but rather the tip-basis beer, homemade cupcakes, & speed-dating environment where the patrons are dressed more trendy than usual with much obvious effort. On Sunday I got to visit the observatory for the first time ever [along with what seemed to be the whole of LA & their extended families]. After clumsily mounting a small wall [wishing I knew parkour instead], an adamantly anal voice from below told me off, "Please don't stand on top of there." We were only admiring the view through camera lens, dude, not defacing anything with Sharpies or Montanas. Anyway, we continued to avoid the overwhelming masses of tourists & went off-roading by foot into the semi-untouched depths of the woods.
